Italian Gardens II

Just north of Venice, in the lagoon, is a little island called Burano.  It's a fishing village, also known for its handmade lace.  Every adorable little house is painted these vibrant, whimsical colors!  

The owners of the homes often leave their front doors open to catch a breeze off the ocean. When they do that, they drop these cloths (curtains?)  in front of their doors so that other folks cannot look inside, into their private sanctuaries.  The neat thing is you can still hear their voices, smell their wonderful cooking and imagine what it must feel like to be so lucky every day!
