Farmer's Market I

These lovely artichokes were enticing passers-by as they basked with their counterparts on the produce boat called Mario (in the Campo San Barnaba).  We passed by this produce boat every evening on our way home to our Venetian apartment after we got off the vaporetto.  A nice chance to pick up something fresh for dinner that night!  (For a glimpse at my work-in-progress for this painting, please visit my Facebook album HERE.

NOTE:  These special artichokes are called "castraure" and they are grown only on Sant'Erasmo Island in the Venice lagoon!
